Place Making Architecture

Architects Atelier Ryo Abe is Taking part of several public projects to create venue for regaining the local community in remote area, projects are expanding in wide categories and also crossing border of Architecture, Art and Landscape. Recent projects have focused on developing spatial designs closely linked to Place Making activities to create local community hubs. One of the major projects SHIMA KITCHEN is built as an art work for Setouchi International Art Festival in 2010, used for theatre, restaurant and community meeting point and continuously developed as gathering place in this over 10 years. This on going project received AIJ Prize in 2021.The latest projects are integrated more with research, space design and place making activities, such as future design of National Park of Calanques in South France, Future design of Community Farm in Hiroshima and Future design of Zoo in mid west of Japan….etc.

Born in Hiroshima, 1st Class Registered Architect
, organized Architects Atelier Ryo Abe since 1995. Received several major Awards and Prizes such as, AR Award for Emerging Architecture 2010, WINNER
. WAN Awards 21 for 21 2011, WINNER. 
 World Architecture Festival 2011 World Culture Building of the Year, WINNER.  Barbara Cappochin Biennial Internationa Prize 2011, Special Prize For Excellence In The Detailed Elements Of The Building, WINNER.  
International Architecture Award 2016, WINNER. Architectural Institute of Japan Prize 2021.  Received PhD in Design in 2023.
